I have never seen a Japanese movie before. I’ve seen dramas like Shogun and House of Ninjas and a lot of anime shows.

The first movie I’ve seen is Perfect Days but it gives me chills.

I’m doing my best to avoid spoilers if anything comes out that’s unintentional and please forgive me.

The movie revolves around the life of Tokyo’s Janitor Hirayama.

You’re going to watch the Hero cleaning all the public toilets in Tokyo’s parks for a whole 2 hours.

On a positive note, You’re about to watch the modern toilets all around Japan. If you’re an architect you enjoy the actual design of toilets.

Our hero wakes up every morning, brushes his teeth trims his mustaches, and takes his favorite coffee from a vending machine.

Starts his drive with rock music. He cleans, mops, and washes the toilets in and out for the entire day.

He ends the day with a few pages of book reading.

This daily routine you’re going to watch for 3 or 4 times? I don’t know I forgot to count.

Along with this daily routine how the characters manages the unexpected events from the guests and his co-workers is the root of Perfect Days.

No wonder this movie went into the Oscar race. Hirayama is played by not actor the Kōji Yakusho.

He’s living as Hirayama. No wonder people love him, He carried that character without speaking much.

And all the other supporting actors did their job well.

I like to explain one scene from this movie that bugging me. Hirayama was doing his cleaning work a child was weeping next toilet.

Unfortunately, the kid lost it seems, he gently held the kid’s hand and walked him near the park.

Suddenly his mother came out of nowhere and scolded him. She took her wet wipes and cleaned the son’s hand the one Hirayama holder.

Without a single word with Hirayama, she went to that place with the kid.

The director Wim Wenders, conveyed that wherever you go in the world this kind of person still exists, and that made me feel bad.

Racism, oppression against minorities, and separation based on birth or economic status never went away from us.

Why people are reluctant to change and still stick to these ideas? this question bugged me a lot.

But a sneaky wave that Hirayama got from the kid while leaving; Brings me hope the time is not too far.

Not a mind-bending, action-packed, musical movie. Just a simple slow-paced movie about the Janitor Hirayama’s everyday life.

Many things to learn from this movie. It gives a clear idea about how to live peacefully and happily in your mundane life.

The movie is Alone but not Lonely.
